Historical Skagway/Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp
This is a tour of a local history museum and a gold panning camp tourist attraction.
This is a bus ride up and down a road that parallels the White Pass Railroad route, combined with a visit to a gold panning camp tourist attraction.
This is a more extensive trip to a gold panning camp tourist attraction, including a salmon bake.
This excursion (or another excursion where part of the trip uses the railway) is a must-do for a cruise to Alaska. It involves a train trip up a very scenic mountain on an open window rail car. The views are breathtaking.
Train/Bus/Gold Rush Trail Camp
This involves a trip up the White Pass Railway, a bus ride down the road that parallels the rail route, and a visit to a gold panning camp tourist attraction.
Yukon Territory Scenic Drive
This is very long van ride through the mountains and into Yukon Territory with a stop for lunch.
This is a tour around Skagway in an antique stretched sightseeing limousine from the 1930s with a show after the tour. Unless you are infirm, I would not recommend this because Skagway is so small you can walk the whole town, and visit several shops in about an hour or so.
Chilkoot Trail/Glacier via Helicopter
This is a helicopter tour of the area and a landing on a glacier where you will be able to walk on top of the glacier with spiked boots.
Glacier Explorer: Pilots Choice
This is a longer helicopter trip that involves two landings on glaciers and walks with spiked boots.
Icefield Flightseeing and Dog Mushing Tour
This is a helicopter tour and ride to a glacier where you will take a dog sled ride.
Glacier Point Wilderness Safari
This is an airplane trip to a remote scenic landing strip. Next there is a ride in a 4-wheel drive SUV to a trailhead. Then there is a ¼ mile hike to a lake. Than there is a canoe trip on the lake at the base of a glacier. The canoe lands at the starting point and the voyage is reversed with a snack at some point.
Klondike Bicycle Tour
I took this tour, it was great. You can review it in my explanation of my time in Skagway. It starts with a 30-minute van ride up the White Pass on a road paralleling the route of the White Pass Railroad. Then there is a mostly downhill bicycle ride on the side of the same road, all the way back into Skagway.
White Pass Train and Bicycle Tour
This tour is the ride up the White Pass on the White Pass Railway combined with the same ride down the White Pass road as on the Klondike Bicycle Tour.
Hike and Float the Chilkoot Trail
This is a short van ride to the nearby historic town (I think ghost town) of Dyea. There is a 2-mile hike up and adjacent river and a raft ride back town the river back to Dyea.
White Pass Railway / Kayak Adventure
This tour is the ride up the White Pass on the White Pass Railway combined with a relatively short kayak trip on a mountain lake and van ride down the White Pass road.
Sawtooth Mountain Nature Hike
This tour is the ride up the White Pass on the White Pass Railway combined with a 5 ½ mile scenic hike and another ride back down the White Pass on the railroad.
Laughton Glacier Train and Trail Hike
This tour is the ride up the White Pass on the White Pass Railway combined with an 8-mile tougher hike and a meal. I am not sure whether you return to Skagway via the railroad or the White Pass road. This is a 9-hour excursion.
Note: My cruise voyage involved the cruise ship Norwegian Wind departing Skagway at about 5PM and sailing to Haines where additional excursion and touring opportunities are available. Other voyages (including all Princess and Holland America cruises) spend a much longer time in Skagway and do not visit Haines. For passengers taking these voyages, there is an opportunity to take tours in Haines that involve first taking (and later returning on) the very scenic Fast-Ferry to Haines (35-45 minute trip each way). For these excursions the cost is much higher than for passengers whose cruise ships go to Haines, because they includes the cost of tickets on the Fast-Ferry. For passengers whose cruise ships do not go to Haines, see my Haines excursion page for recommendations on more excursions.
